So, you're probably been told you need an eBay template, and that bit isn't a lie. An eBay template is a great, cheap way to increase your eBay sales dramatically (usually by 40% - 50 %). So, you went directly to Google or another search engine, typed in eBay template and though "GREAT", when you saw there were a few available for free. Here is why you're wrong, and shouldn't use a free eBay template...
Every template you find for free will be of extremely poor quality. Like anything in life, you pretty much get what you pay for. This matters even more in the world of a designer, no reputable designer undersells himself, being creative and have great design skills requires a lot of work. Here are a few reasons why you shouldn't use a free eBay template.
• Very poor quality, the chances are that any template been offered for free isn't very high quality. The designer was probably making one to sell, turns out it wasn't any good, and decided to release it for free to boost some traffic.
• Often free templates have hidden links in the footer; this applies for all free web templates, not just eBay templates. You may not even know they are there without looking at the code - which you probably don't understand because if you did you would be making your own templates.
• If you settle on using a free eBay template, you aren't going to receive any support on it. This alone should be worth its weight in gold. What if you somehow mess your code up and ALL of your eBay listings are affected. Do you really want to be the one who has to go through and edit them manually? Didn't think so...
• Generally speaking, a free eBay template won't be coded properly. The designer will have taken and often taken shortcut by bad designers. The use of tables rather than CSS. They do this for more than one reason: It saves bandwidth on their site, because all the code is hosted by you and also the fact that it takes around 5% of the time to code a design in tables rather than XHTML / CSS. You may not have a clue what any of the last paragraph meant, let's put it this way: Badly coded templates in tables will break when you insert any extra images / videos, whereas CSS templates won't restrict you.
• + many more...
So, how much is a premium template that is of an excellent design going to cost me? The answer is a lot less than what you would expect. You can pick up a premium eBay template for under £10 in fact you can even get them for £5. "Sounds great, where do I sign up?"
